「あなたは、特定の人だけが、人だと思ってる。見方も、考え方もあなたのようにする人たちだけが。だけど、あなたが見知らぬ人の足跡を辿っていったなら学ぶはずだ、今まで決して知らなかったこと、あなたが決して知らなかったことを。」

 

　ジムのあいさつの言葉として私の好きな映画の主題歌の一部を抜粋させていただきました。ディズニーのアニメ「ポカホンタス」の主題歌"Colors Of The Wind"からの抜粋ですが、この映画はネイティブアメリカンと英国人の恋愛物語です。英国人のジョンが未開の地だと思っていたネイティブアメリカンの村に入った時、そこで会ったポカホンタスに「自分たちは未開の地をよくしてきた」と意気揚々と誇らしげに言います。しかし彼女はそれに対して「自分たちは未開の人間じゃない、そう思うのはあなたが自分本位で、自分のものさしでしかすべてのものを見ようとしないからそう見えるだけ、我々は同じ人間なのだ」と言うのですが、その彼女の主張がこの歌の歌詞に表現されています。

 

　ジムには多くの人たちがトレーニングに来てくれています。年齢、職業、性別、人種や学歴の違った人たちが共にここで楽しく汗を流してくれていることと思いますが、ジムではみなさんすべてが主役です。ここに集まっているみなさんを自分のものさしだけではなく、人それぞれにあったものさしで相手のことを尊重する。そうできることが、本当にその人の存在を心から尊重できることだと思っています。

　よく昭和の時代に頑張ってきた人は我々の時代はとか、俺たちはとか言います。誰だって自分のやってきたことが正しいと思うことは自然なことで、それが一生懸命やってきたならばなおさらのことです。しかしそういった自分のもっているものさしで人をはかることには限界があります。事実スポーツで昭和でやってきた常識は今や非常識になっていることはたくさんあります。そういう自分だけの価値観を押し付け合うだけではジムは決して健全に機能することはないでしょう。自分だけの常識、そして小さなプライドや偏見にこだわっていては見えないものがたくさんあります。

　ここではそういったプライド、自分だけの常識を一切かなぐり捨てて、ひとりびとりと向き合いたいと思っています。ヘタレ、運動音痴、ダメな奴、そういう人がここに来ても生かされ、スポーツをする楽しさを知る、そういうジムを目指していますが、そうなるためにもひとりびとりを理解し、お互いが自分の常識を押し付け合うのではなく、その人の目的や考え方を尊重できるボクシングクラブでありたいと願っています。

　この曲のタイトルは”Colors Of The Wind”ですが、風に色なんてないと思うでしょう、しかしじっくりと目を凝らせば見える色だってある。見えない部分は見ようとしないから見えないのであって、それはお互いを尊重しあうことで見えてくるもので、そのことがジムの運営をよくしていくものだと思っています。

　ここでは誰もがその目的や存在を軽んじられることなく、楽しくトレーニングできる場であることを願っています。そしてそのためにはみなさんの協力が必要です。俺についてこいではなく、みなさんと共に愛されるボクシングクラブを運営することがわがクラブのモットーです。

As our opening remarks, I would like to picked up from the theme song of one of my favorite movies. It is an excerpt from the theme song "Colors Of The Wind" of the Disney animated film "Pocahontas," which is a love story between a Native American and an Englishman. When John, an Englishman, goes into a Native American village, which he thought was an uncharted area, he proudly and triumphantly tells Pocahontas, whom he meets there, that they have made the land a better place. But she replies, "We are not uncivilized people, you only think so because you are self-centered and try to see everything only in your own way, we are the same people," which is her assertion expressed in the lyrics of this song. Many people come to our gym to train. People of different ages, professions, genders, races, and educational backgrounds enjoy working out together here, but everyone are the lead in the gym. I respect everyone gathered here not only according to my own standards, but also according to the standards that are appropriate for each person. I believe that being able to do so is truly respecting the existence of each person from the heart. People who worked hard in the Showa era often say things like "our era" or "we are. It is natural for anyone to think that what they have done is right, especially if they have worked hard. However, there is a limit to measuring people by one's own standards. In fact, there are many cases in sports where the common sense that was practiced in the Showa era has now become insane. Gyms will never function fairly if we only impose our own values on each other. There are many things you cannot see if you stick to your own common sense and small pride and prejudice. I would like to face all of you here without any of such pride and my own common sense. We aim to be a gym where people who are wimper, not good at sports, can come and enjoy the joy of sports, but we also want to be a boxing club where people can understand all of you and respect each other's goals and ideas rather than impose their own common sense on each other. The title of this song is "Colors Of The Wind," and you would think that there are no colors in the wind, but if you stare at things, you can see them. The parts we can't see are invisible because we don't try to see them, but we can see them by respecting each other, and I believe this is what makes a gym run well. I want this to be a place where everyone can enjoy training. And for that, we need your cooperation. Our club's motto is not "follow me," but to run a boxing club that is loved by everyone.
